When I first studied as an undergraduate, sociology was not my major. In my teens, the discipline had not yet enjoyed wide currency in secondary schools. I only grabbed a chance to learn more about this alien subject by taking courses as electives. Once started, I was captivated through and through. Many of my beloved professors in sociology were great storytellers, and their storylines about society were fascinating. More importantly, I gradually came to realize these tales had the power to transform society in which people could become healthier, wiser, freer, and more autonomous. Guess what I did next after finishing a course in sociology?
I changed my major altogether, and have become a hard-line loyalist in the discipline. I feel blessed to be able to share this joy of sociology at Langara after leaving my city of origin in the Summer of 2022. Who knows history will not repeat itself, and you will soon be under its spell like me?
